Earl W. Spackman opened Ideal Beach on June 18, 1926. The facilities started with a bath house, a swimming beach, a picnic pavilion, row boats, and a refreshment stand.

A ballroom was added.

The ballroom was doubled in size to 6,000 square feet and a roll back roof was added so guests could dance under the stars. The swimming area was enclosed by the Promenade Steel Pier.

A concessionaire brought the first rides, a merry-go-round and a Ferris wheel, to Ideal Beach.

| 1947: |

The rides become a permanent attraction. At this time the park has a merry-go-round, Ferris wheel, and a Roll-O-Plane.

The Boardwalk, inspired by Atlantic City’s famous Boardwalk, was added.

The park’s name was changed to Indiana Beach.

Sightseeing tours of Lake Shafer on a wooden-hulled paddle-wheel boat started.

Antique Autos, Dodgem, and Sky Ride were added.

Indiana’s largest pedestrian suspension bridge was added to connect Paradise Island to the south Indiana Beach parking lot.

The original paddle-wheel boat was replaced with a larger boat and the original boat was converted to a floating restaurant called the Pronto Queen.

The park’s first roller coaster, Galaxi was added.

Dr. Frankenstein’s Haunted Castle was added.

Tig’rr, a Schwarzkopf Jet Star, was added.

The wooden coaster Hoosier Hurricane was added.
