More About This Ride
Ride Restrictions:
Minimum height restriction:   52 in.

Structure:
205' hill with vertical ascent and descent.

"Coral Red" track and "Seafoam Green" support columns.

First overbank turn is 110' high, the second at 90' high.

Length of acceleration track is 157'.

Features:
Riders are accelerated from 0 to 82 mph in 2.3 seconds.

Riders experience 2.2 G's during acceleration.

History:
First hydraulic launch system incorporated in a rollercoaster.

During the 2003 season, Xcelerater was temporarily closed to the riding public as the park made structural modifications. A steel column was welded between the two support structures that support the first hill, as well as two stress cables which attached from one support structure to the other.

During the 2004 season, CAL-OSHA mandated the closure of two Intamin AG designed rides that operates with a "t-bar" restraint. Xcelerator was one of the two, and the park was asked to modify the restraint system and have it approved prior to reopening. The modifications include a height extension on all seat side-gaurds, a restraint safety color-indicator, and red indicator markings on the sides of the lap-bars.

Tagline: "Put the Pedal to the Metal."

This ride rose to the top of my list the first time I rode it. The speed and acceleration was breath taking.

Xcelerator was an intense rush of an attraction, however the best part of the attraction by far was the peak of the hill and as you get a fantastic view of the park.

This ride is a lot of fun because you get a lot of airtime on the first hill. But my favorite launch coaster is still TTD at Cedar Point.

Breathtaking launch, awesome overbanked turns, smooth all the way, awesome view from the top, everything you could want. I just hated the old restraints...don't know about the newer ones though.

Xcelerator is so cool lots of air time and the over banked turns are so cool!! :) I don't like the hard brakes at the end. Otherwise, it's fun and fast.

I've heard that the launch for this ride is more forceful than Top Thrill Dragster's - is that true?

^ If you're talking about the acceleration G-forces experienced and initial burst from the take-off, then yes, you heard correct.

Xcelerator's launch will blow your mind. The airtime on the top hat is a great follow up. Xcelerator is my #1 coaster and has the best launch I have 'xperienced.' This thing rocks at night.

Tip: Ride in the front, you get ejected going over the top hat. Prepare for a solid 5 seconds of air.

This ride was not that good, actually, I thought Knott's was a waste of time.

I absolutely love the acceleration of the ride and the top hat, but the rest of the ride was ho-hum at best. I'll still take it over Dragster, though.

It's very fun...especially for such a short ride. This set the bar for coasters back in '02 however multiple coasters have passed that bar [Dragster, Ka, Stormrunner] but it still remains an awesome ride. Go Xcelerator!

This was my first ever rocket coaster that I've ridden and I must say it was a great recruiter. I loved this ride. I know looking at it and that strange hill that seems to defy the laws of gravity so high in the air (I rode before the recent modifications) just blows your mind away and you cant help but to get in line for this ride. It did not disappoint me at all and next time I am out at Knotts, I wont hesitate to get on it again. The acceleration is just awesome, I love this ride. Recommend for everyone.

The first 2.3 seconds of this ride are the most intense 2 seconds of your life. Think of it this way: count your seconds. By the end of one-Mississippi, you're already at 40 mph. At the end of two-Mississippi, you're at 80. Incredible launch, great hills and overbanked turns, and an all-in-all great experience.
