More About This Ride
Ride Restrictions:
Minimum height restriction:   48 in.

Features:
Thunder Road is the only known coaster to be built over two different states (North Carolina and South Carolina).

History:
When Carowinds ran a backwards side, this was the forward side.

Thunder Road was one of the (if not the) first movie-themed roller coasters. It was originally themed around the movie of the same name and the park at one time had an actual moonshine still on site.

The coaster originally ran only 2 trains, but because they were so heavy they were removed from the coaster.

I like going backwards better. Forwards is even more boring.

Riding going forward just gives you Gs and nothing else. The back wasn't running when i went so hopefully it'll be running this summer when I go. When the back ain't running, it's just a regular out and back coaster wit a big first drop.

I like Thunder Road pretty well. If you're in the front seat the ride is exceptionally smooth for a wooden coaster! Thunder Road has some great airtime as well.

I don't get why no one loves this coaster. I think its great! Backwards gives you more of a rush though. Grit Your Teeth, Bare The Load, Enjoy Your Ride, On Thunder Road!

Thunder Road, by all accounts, is not that great of a coaster. However, the history of the ride is great. It predates Magic Mountain's staple Colossus by a few years and is still running MUCH smoother than Colossus. In fact, considering that the ride is celebrating its 35th birthday next season, it's in GREAT condition. And it does allow for some great airtime. A classic out-and-back.

UPDATE 3/01/09:
I think it's so great to see Cedar Fair putting money into retracking this ride. They understand its history and want to see it last for a long time.
