415' tall open-ended tower with vertical ascent (forward) and descent (reverse).

Features:

History:
First rollercoaster in the world to utilize Linear Synchronous Motors (LSM's).

Problems delayed ride's opening until March of 1997. It was scheduled to open in 1996.

It operated fine since 3/15/1997, but during the 2004 season, it was closed due to apparent mechanical problems.

That same season, CAL-OSHA then required certain Intamin AG designed rides that utilized the "t-bar" restraint to be closed and that the parks perform modifications. These orders were made when a series of fatalities that occured on Intamin AG rides with similar restraints around the globe in a short period of time. Superman The Escape was one of two rides effected by the state-mandated closure.

The launch-off, alone, is worth the wait...

When this was built, it was great. It still is very good and worth wait if you have never ridden it. The best side is the right. It goes up farther. The launch is the best part without a doubt.

I was there on the 25th. I thought I was crazy, but I actually saw the left track launch the car up the tower. But it was only once, I thought they had opened the side. Unfortunately, i guess they just tested it or something. I got two rides on the right side tho

The sides switch off, sometimes it's the right side and sometimes left. Like Colussus
