More About This Ride
Ride Restrictions:
Minimum height restriction:   48 in.

Structure:
Red track with blue supports columns.

Features:
Two helices.

History:
First Intamin AG Mega Coaster installation.

Was originally designed with individual lapbar restraints.

Only into its second day of operation (5/16/1999), 40-year old former businessman Mike Dwaileebe was ejected from the ride and ten feet to the ground as the train he was on neared the end of the coaster's course. Though he was not fatally thrown, he suffered fractured ribs and an uncorrectable hernia condition. Dwaileebe weighed more than 400 pounds. Footage taken from ride cameras in the loading platform later determined that Dwaileebe did not lower his lapbar restraint because of his extreme girth. After the incident, Dwaileebe filed a lawsuit against Six Flags. The jury found Six Flags 100% liable for the accident and ordered the amusement park operator to pay Dwaileebe $4,000,000. The ride's manufacturer, Intamin AG, was cleared from any liability regarding the incident.

Seatbelts were installed after the incident to circumvent the ride's safety issues.

Past name(s): Superman - Ride of Steel (1999 - 2006)

Wow... When I said that I ment when I went on it in 1999... Now its 2005 and I went back to SFDL.. this SROS is now by far the worst... and SFNEs is by far the best.

I love this rollercoaster the first hill will scare you. You will be scared of this ride if you are a first timer but i highly recommend that if you go to Six Flags Darien Lake that you go on this ride. It makes the park so much better. Awesome ride.

Best ride at SFDL. Custom built for the park over the lakes and with the mist effect, this version easily beats out the one in Maryland (which sits on a plain field). This may be the best hyper i've been on. It only has six moments of air, but they are CRAZY moments of air, both floater and ejector.

I love this ride. Better that Six Flags New England's Superman.

I would say as this is a very great ride. The un ending 68 degree drop, high vertical G's on the helices, and kick butt airtime on the hills. It is definitely worth a trip to SFDL for this. (I last rode it in 2004)

It's funny how they had to take out the "Superman" in Ride Of Steel ever since the ownership change.
