More About This Park
Notes:
Disney's Animal Kingdom was opened in 1998 as an animal-conservation theme park with Disney's patented over-the-top twist. The park is divided into five major "lands" - Africa, Camp Minnie-Mickey, Dinoland USA, Safari Village and Asia - though the true tribute here is to the versatility of concrete, which is colored, imprinted upon and formed into an endless variety of shapes to help create mock-authentic ambiences for each land.

Once within the park, visitors have four major stops. The best is Kilimanjaro Safaris , where "lorries" of tourists ride past giraffes, zebras, elephants, lions, gazelles and rhinos, all passing what feels like authentic African wildlands (local oak trees have been trimmed to look like African acacias). Crossing over to "Asia," visitors walk through dense vegetation and village ruins to see giant fruit bats, Asian birds and possibly tigers in the Maharajah Jungle Trek . The park's only thrill ride is in DinoLand USA: Countdown to Extinction , a roller-coaster-style vehicle that makes small drops and short stops in the dark as dinosaurs pop out of nowhere and roar.

The remainder of the park requires no more than casual exploration. The Flights of Wonder bird show exhibits parrots, hawks and other unusual birds, and classic Disney characters in appropriate attire sign autographs in Camp Minnie-Mickey , where you can also catch Festival of the Lion King , a participatory production of upbeat music with some nifty acrobatics, loosely based on its namesake film.

I didn't really care for this park too much. NO thrill rides operating the day I was there. Dinosauer was closed and EE is still being built. Very disappointed.

This IS NOT the place to go if your seeking thrills. Well, atleast until Everest opens. If you want thrills, go to MGM.

This park truly sucks. The heat is unbearable in it. The only park that you practically burn up in.

Very bad place to go. I went when it was pourng, and it stunk. I though Primeval Whirl would be fun, but it felt like someone just stabbed, shot, sliced, hacked, and blown up my back, oh my god it stunk. I don't think EE will be fun either. Yes it is gonna go fowards and backwards on a non shuttle, but I don't see much thrill. I just don't. Dinosaur was bad, it was horrible. All disney parks are incredibly bad. If you want true thrills, go to Cedar Point, Hershey Park or Dorney Park.

Animal Kingdom is my favorite park. Not necessarily for the thrills, though Dinosaur and Expedition Everest are wonderfully thrilling. The intricacies and details of this park are unbelievable. Everything from the Tree of Life all the way down to the sidewalks. I have never seen a more amazing queue line than that of Expedition Everest. And the detailing and realism of Asia and Africa are unparalleled by any park, BGA included. Not even the old Splendid China could compare. Take the time to do the walking trails and you will not be disappointed. Also plan to take a nice camera for some amazing photographic opportunities everywhere you turn.

Expedition Everest was way too built up it isn't that great the backwards thing is cool but other than that not all that great. It was still enjoyable though. I did like the themeing of Animal Kingdom it is very beleivable you really feel like your in Africa. I espically like the detail on the walk ways with the leaves and tire marks very creative.

Best Ride: Kali River Rapids

Animal Kingdom is the baby of WDW's parks, but its definitely a decent park despite its youth. The atmosphere is top notch and it really does a great job of blending a zoo with an amusement park.

Coasters- I went back in 2000 when there weren't any coasters, but since then Primeval Whirl and Expedition Everest have been added. Everest sounds great from what I've heard.

Flat Rides- There weren't any when I went back in 2000, but now they have a Dumbo type flat. I doubt it's anything special.

Water Rides- Kali River Rapids is the best river rapids ride I've been on. The theming was decent and I remember getting soaked and loving that big final plunge.

Dark Rides- Dinosaur was very good and surprisingly intense for a Disney ride. The animatronics were excellent and the movement was very well coordinated with the ride.

Food- I didn't have anything last time, but the food seemed diverse and the restaurants looked great.

Atmosphere- Incredible. Disney outdid themselves with Animal Kingdom and the park really is a beauty. All of the details are excellent and very accurate and the Tree of Life is definitely my favorite of the Disney parks' icons.

Also, Animal Kingdom has Killimanjaro Safaris (awesome from what I've heard) and It's Tough to be a Bug. I skipped both, but both sound really good.
