Notes:
At 1,149 feet, the Stratosphere Tower is the tallest freestanding observation tower in the United States and the tallest building west of the Mississippi River.

From the observation decks, lounge, restaurant, meeting & banquet space and private dining rooms, guests enjoy panoramic views of the Las Vegas Strip and the surrounding valley.

Visitors to the Tower are whisked from ground level to the observation decks in less than 30 seconds in double decker elevators traveling at speeds of 1,800 feet per minute or three floors a second.

The very top of the tower is home to four amusement rides - all of which are the highest in the world.

We made a stop at the Stratosphere as my first stop in my major moving trip from CA to FL. After a nice 5 hour drive that went very well, we pulled into Las Vegas for the few hours that we had to roll through. Only having a few hours, our selection of things to see and do was limited. So we rolled down the strip, took several pictures, and made our way to the Stratosphere first.

Since we had a friend that works there, we had reservations for the tower and rides waiting for us. We checked at the lobby, and took the incredibly quick elevator ride up the tower, with our ears popping all the way up. Quite a deal to go up around 108 stories in forty seconds.

We checked in again at the rides desk, and were good to go on all three. So we took a brief walk around the indoor observation deck and headed to the elevators that took us up to the Big Shot and High Roller Roller Coaster. First stop, Big Shot.

For those that somehow might not be aware of what the rides on top of the tower, the Big Shot is an S&S shot tower that gives you an unprecended view of the city. The operators checking the restraints and seating you work surprisingly close to the ride, thoguh I guess that makes sense considering the fairly close quarters up there. Our first ride on it was with a view of downtown, and then after a ride on the High Roller, took another ride on it facing the Strip. Let me just say that this is very possibly the biggest adrenaline rush I've ever experienced, with it being a great shot delivering great airtime on the drops, beign thrust up into the top of the restraints twice, and getting a 3rd very good drop also. But added to that is that when you launch, there is nothing around you. You feel like you can fly right off the building and just keep on going and going, as if there is nothing at all keeping you on top of the building.

As Dave put it- it's a good thing that we hadn't eaten before we got up there. I think we both agreed that it was our favorite ride up there, and ranks right up with my favorite rides in all. Just awesome.

High Roller was next, in between a bookend of Big Shot rides, and it's been pretty much summed up in other reports. It's basically a family coaster that's stuck on the top of the building, goes around it three times, and has two rather small drops on it. Not much to it, but it works well on the top. Rode it once, and that was nice. No complaints, no real major high lights either.

We then exchanged elevators and went down a level to Xscream, the new ride from Interactive rides. In essence, it looks like a giant teeter totter with a car holding several seats on it, and one end of it sticking out over the edge of the building. Lucky us, we got 2 front row seats- which means at full extension we were sticking out 5 feet from the end of the "teeter totter" part, and hanging down enough that we could see the people in the observation deck below us. I'm not afraid of heights, but this may well one of the most frightening rides I've ever experienced. There was actually one lady behind me on one ride that as we got off said, "I've been skydiving, and this was much worse." But it was still a lot of fun. This is one great addition to the tower.

After that, John, our host, totally spoiled us, took us around the tower and told us quite a bit about the tower, and did so much more for us. Big, huge thanks to John (aka Mr. Stratosphere) for doing far more than we could have asked for and giving us the best visit that we could have possibly had.

I loved the view riding Insanity. I didn't have my cup of coffee so it was tame to ride everything else. Back at the hotel room when I was looking at the Stratosphere brochure I realized - WOW That was so high up!

I thought this was a great place, but way overpriced.
